As we approach the anniversary of the 1967 Abortion Act on October 27th, a Law which has led to over 8 million unborn children being aborted in the UK, it’s an important time to remember that we still have a lot of work to do as part of our efforts to build a Culture of Life.
Here are just some of the ways in which you can help. Remember that every small action makes a big difference!
LOBBY YOUR MP ON ABORTION
Lobby your MP on abortion before 27 October, the 47th anniversary of the Abortion Act receiving Royal Assent
SPUC has recently produced an abortion mis-certification briefing, which clearly shows how most abortions in Britain are being authorised on false mental health grounds. You can use the briefing to write a letter to, or to visit, your MP, and call on him or her to take action in Parliament, in the way suggested in the briefing. If you would like to receive a copy of the briefing in order to take part in this lobbying activity, please contact SPUC Scotland on 0141 221 2094 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to the briefing there is an accompanying petition to highlight this issue to Health Ministers in the UK parliaments. In Scotland the petition will be sent to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing in Scotland, who oversees the running of the NHS in Scotland, on 27 October. You can get copies of the petition direct from SPUC Scotland by contacting: email@example.com or calling 0141 221 2094.
INTERVIEW PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATES FOR GENERAL ELECTION 7 MAY 2015 – CHALLENGE THEM ON THEIR VOTING INTENTIONS
SPUC has produced a list of questions to put to parliamentary candidates. Not all the parliamentary candidates’ names for the main parties have been published, but in most constituencies you can get to work identifying who is standing for Parliament, locally, in the next General Election. Useful information will be available shortly on SPUC’s website. Please contact SPUC Scotland on 0141 221 2094 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org for more information
ASSISTED SUICIDE (SCOTLAND) BILL
Please lobby your MSPs – both constituency and regional – on the above listed bill, which is still at committee stage in the Scottish Parliament. Write letters asking for their general views on euthanasia and assisted suicide, how they intend to vote on this current bill and urge them strongly to oppose the bill. Please let SPUC Scotland know the views of the members who respond to your letter. For more information on this or on organising a letter writing group, please contact SPUC Scotland on 0141 221 2094 or email: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.

HOLD AN SPUC COFFEE MORNING
This year’s SPUC Coffee Morning – which marks the anniversary of the passing of the 1967 Abortion Act – will be on Saturday 25 October. Of course, if that date isn’t feasible, you are welcome to choose another date around this time which is more suitable. SPUC coffee mornings or an alternative – such as a pro-life lunch – provide a great opportunity to raise funds for the Society and to encourage new people to get involved with pro-life activities. Packs are available to help you organise your event including posters, guidelines and an order form for SPUC Christmas cards and other pro-life merchandise, which can be put on sale on the day. To reserve your organiser’s pack, contact SPUC Scotland on 0141 221 2094 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
BECOME A VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISER
Helping raise vital funds for SPUC Scotland’s work also gives you a chance to raise awareness about the work of the society in Scotland. Any community or religious outlet can hold a White Flower appeal or organise a fundraising event to support the Society in Scotland.
To find out all the different ways you can help fundraise for the society or be a fundraising representative or speaker in your area please contact SPUC Scotland on 0141 221 2094 or email: email@example.com for more information.
FORM A LOCAL PRO-LIFE GROUP OR LOCAL SPUC BRANCH SUPPORT THE SOCIETY’S WORK OF CHANGING HEARTS AND MINDS ON ABORTION
SPUC is a human rights group fighting for the right to life of unborn children. But we have to use all our gifts – our intellect, our ideas, and our ability to communicate or to teach. Perhaps you or someone you know might feel inspired to form and lead a local pro-life group, a pro-life prayer groups or form an official SPUC branch? Or perhaps you are already part of a community group and would like to incorporate pro-life issues into the work you do together. If you are interested in doing this, we can help and connect you with other pro-life groups in Scotland who could support you in this initiative.
Please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
